This song doesn’t sound anything like I conceptualized it and all the lyrics were rewritten during the recording process. It started out as “I want to know what all this cheating and lying is about woman.” You know, the old “I’m a tortured man” blues song. But Steve, my co-producer said: "Your songs are too negative, people don’t want to hear negative songs.” So, right before I finished recording the vocals, I maintained the hook and re-wrote all the lyrics. I was on an eight-hour drive to Arkansas to help set up a day treatment program for severely mentally ill adults and when my mind drifted off to an old girlfriend a new lyric was born!
