About The Touch

Make Amends

Track Time: 2:58

This song’s about saying "I’m sorry” to a lot of people. It’s also about acknowledgement of one’s humanness.

This is the last song I wrote for this CD. The song used to be about 6-7 minutes long with a big Grateful Dead type space jam right in the middle of it. Steve cut that out (“This ain’t the 70’s, Robert!!!”) and then we had no middle. I will never forget recording the initial tracks (bass and drums) and Steve running in from the control room waving his hands in the air, pacing back and forth yelling: “The song doesn’t go anywhere, there’s got to be a change up somewhere”, to which I replied: “That’s what that long middle jam section that you cut out was in there for Steve!!!” Michael Cherry suggested we cut the time in half for eight bars and then we had a middle.. Kelley Hunt defined the feel of this song with her great piano part.

Reba Russell, Jackie Johnson, and Susan Marshall (Pictured) did some great back-ups on this one and set the foundation for Emory Lovett to do the response vocals.
